The NC Health Talent Alliance released its 2024 analysis on November 13, 2024, highlighting key insights from employer demand survey data, talent supply survey data, and secondary labor market data. The primary purpose of the data collection and analysis is to drive action through regional employer-led collaboratives using the Talent Pipeline Management® framework deployed through NC Health Talent Alliance (NC HTA). Given the relevance and utility of this information, the Center is making data publicly available in a series of regional and statewide profiles accompanied by an interactive dashboard.

In early 2024, NC HTA conducted its inaugural employer demand and talent supply surveys to support regional employer-led processes to prioritize critical workforce needs and partner with health education programs to implement solutions. This first NC HTA data collection effort focused on RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and MAs and generated data from an estimated 1,000 health facilities and more than 80 health education programs.
The employer demand survey collected comprehensive data on current workforce metrics, including filled and vacant positions, hiring trends, exits, and overall employment figures, organized by profession and region. A parallel talent supply survey was distributed to higher education institutions to quantify the flow of students through corresponding health science and nursing programs.
For the first time, we’ve integrated employer demand data with educational supply information, enabling targeted efforts to address workforce needs effectively. This data alignment positions us to make measurable strides in narrowing the nursing workforce gap in 2025 through regional collaboratives employing a process called Talent Pipeline Management. Moving forward, the survey will be conducted annually, providing insights to guide impactful workforce development.
About NC Health Talent Alliance
The NC Chamber Foundation and the NC Center on the Workforce for Health formally launched the landmark NC Health Talent Alliance public-private partnership in 2023 to aggressively address the state’s critical health care workforce shortages, and it will conduct an annual survey of health employers and educational organizations. By leveraging the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s proven Talent Pipeline Management® (TPM) framework, the Health Talent Alliance works to fill critical health sector roles by building robust talent pipelines aligned with industry demand. NC AHEC regions are implementation partners, hiring regional staff to coordinate action with regional employers, educators, and workforce entities.
